Original Aerial Image from MSR Maps.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, I wrote a blog about Photoshop’s Content Aware tool.  Today, I decided to write about another application of the tool.  The top image on the right is an aerial view of the Shooks Run Neighborhood east of downtown Colorado Springs.  The majority of Shooks Run has a nice fabric of streets, good connectivity with sporatic mixed-use, walkable amenities.  However, if you look close, there is an auto-oriented commercial building with intrusive parking between the street and the use.

Modification to Aerial is south of E-W Boulevard on East Side of Aerial. Aerial from MSR Maps.

In Photoshop, I put a simple rectangular marquee over the lot and simply hit the delete button.  From there, Photoshop takes its formula and in less than 5 seconds, the auto-oriented use is replaced with a much more context-sensitive building with better relationships to the street.
What I learned from this is that it is obviously elementary that the aut0-oriented development has no place in this traditional neighborhood.
